چکیده
In this paper a novel application of the (high-order) $H(\text{div})$-conforming Hybrid Discontinuous Galerkin finite element method for monolithic fluid-structure interaction (FSI) is presented. The Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) description derived elements including Piola transformation, yielding exact divergence free fluid velocity solutions. arising demonstrated by means benchmark problems proposed Turek and Hron [50]. With hp-refinement strategies singularities boundary layers are overcome leading to optimal spatial convergence rates.

Pseudo-conforming Hdiv polynomial finite elements on quadrilaterals and hexahedra
The aim of this paper is to present a new class of mixed finite elements on quadrilaterals and hexahedra where the approximation is polynomial on each element K. The degrees of freedom are the same as those of classical mixed finite elements. However, in general, with this kind of finite elements, the resolution of second order elliptic problems leads to non conforming approximations. In the pa...
متن کاملRobust methods for fluid-structure interaction with stabilised finite elements
Various multifield problems and among them fluid-structure interaction applications arise in nearly all fields of engineering. The present work contributes to the development of a stable and robust approach for the numerical simulation of fluid-structure interaction problems. In particular two-dimensional and three-dimensional elastic structues interacting with incompressible flow are considere...
متن کاملConforming polygonal finite elements
In this paper, conforming finite elements on polygon meshes are developed. Polygonal finite elements provide greater flexibility in mesh generation and are better-suited for applications in solid mechanics which involve a significant change in the topology of the material domain. In this study, recent advances in meshfree approximations, computational geometry, and computer graphics are used to...
متن کاملMixed Methods Using Standard Conforming Finite Elements
We investigate the mixed finite element method (MFEM) for solving a second order elliptic problem with a lowest order term, as might arise in the simulation of single phase flow in porous media. We find that traditional mixed finite element spaces are not necessary when a positive lowest order (i.e., reaction) term is present. Hence we propose to use standard conforming finite elements Qk × (Qk...
متن کاملPseudo-conforming polynomial finite elements on quadrilaterals
The aim of this paper is to present a new class of finite elements on quadrilaterals where the approximation is polynomial on each element K. In the case of Lagrange finite elements, the degrees of freedom are the values at the vertices and in the case of mixed finite elements the degrees of freedom are the mean values of the fluxes on each side. The degres of freedom are the same as those of c...
